I still haven't had the chance to get to the Maryland Room at Enoch Pratt, but I have found some good online information and began looking through a book about transportation in American cities in general.

I'm having the hardest time obtaining photos of old street cars in B"timore, which I think I might be able to find at Enoch Pratt or in more books.

My biggest obstacle researching is time. I work six days a week for over 60 hours a week in addition to taking multiple classes so I'm having trouble finding free time for any research other than at home.

In the last week I have found a couple of minor sources, but no great primary sources. I have been in contact with a classmate about helping each other by sharing some findings and sources so hopefully that can help strengthen our research.

I'm also hoping I can take a day off work this coming week so I can have a few extra hours to spend researching.

Research Proposal

I would like to research the changes in Baltimore's mass transit systems, post WWII.

I have always been intrigued by the trolley lines and their disappearance, and would like to research exactly why they were phased out. I'm also interested in the proposed answers that lie in our future to rebuild our mass transportation.

I would like to focus on the changes between systems (trolley to bus, the addition of light rail and subway, and the proposed additions for an east-west red line) and how they affect the residents of the city and county that is served by each system. Hopefully as I research I won't find such a wide time span and multiple transit systems to be too much to include.
